Eid Mubarak, I hope you all had a pleasant and blessed Ramadan.

A little off topic for this blog, but I have some pretty cool historical items. This is a 1950 North Korean war bond. North Korea refuses to admit it ever issued these, and this one is in the highest denomination available.

Hey everybody, I’ll be posting again soon. Turns out 17 days of work in a row during Ramadan with no end in sight really kills your desire to do anything besides sleeping.

Let me tell you a fantastic living in America story. A guy came and ordered two burgers. He was super old, and from a tour group from the south. Had a really thick southern accent. About five minutes after serving him, he comes back and says he only got one burger. Having personally put two burgers in the bag, I told him that I remembered getting him both. He continued to argue he only got one. So I said I would tell the kitchen to make another one, as the customer is always right and all. But then the guy said to me “I don’t want to shop here, because I don’t like no Islamists.” I was totally shocked and didn’t know how to respond. I didn’t want to do anything drastic and get fired, so I just mumbled an apology and walked off. I told my boss what he said, figuring he would want to say a few words to the guy. My boss is Palestinian. He got really mad, and yelled at the bigoted guy and told him to leave. It was great. Later somebody came from the tour group came to apologize, but essentially focused on how they were wrong about the burger, but not the comment. I hate living here, I want to leave.

What an awful day. Worked eleven hours while fasting. My manager showed up to work two hours late, drunk. She got really angry over nothing and closed the entire store in the market 15 minutes before we were supposed to close. Then my coworker just left, and when my manager literally ran out to confront him, he said that he asked me if it was alright to finish closing, and that I said yes. He never asked me that. I finished closing alone, with a terrible headache from lack of water. After work, my $80 headphones broke. I can’t afford new ones. I got home from work, and dropped the glass of water I was going to use to finally break my fast for the day on the floor. Didn’t drink anything until 45 minutes after I could. Ugh.

Ok, so here I go. I have an 11 hour shift starting in six hours. Not only that, but there’s only going to be one other employee with me because we’re understaffed. Please, I don’t ask for duas often, but I’m really nervous about working this long while fasting. May the intervention of Allah give me strength and perseverance to see this through.

As I abstain from food or drink for this wonderful month, I ask that my facial hair give me a break and stop growing so fast. How I can go from cleanly shaven to looking like a deadbeat dad in the span of 12 hours annoys me. Persian DNA needs to quit.

At least now that Iran isn’t in the World Cup, I don’t have to listen to my uncle shout swears in Farsi at the TV.
